WAR MEMORIAL (Monumento ai Caduti)

HISTORY AND DESCRIPTION

After various administrative events, the monument to the fallen of the war of 1915-1918 was finally raised on 26 August 1923 also in Acquapendente. The statuary group cast by the Laganà foundry in Naples bore the name of the author he had built another war memorial in nearby Montefiascone, in addition to those of Subiaco, Sant’Oreste and Montemarciano.
Of particular interest is the establishment of a specific committee in charge of time to follow all the works related to the realization of the work. In 1954 the restoration of the monument was completed, which had suffered serious damage during the Second World War. The restoration was entrusted to the local artist Domenico Creti. On this occasion, a commemorative plaque was added to the basement for those who died in the war of the Second World War.
The monument depicting two naked men with helmets, wrapped in a flag holding a banner with the Roman eagle that stands out over the entire sculptural group. At the base there are four eagles with oak leaves and laurel at the corners, on the front a wrought iron laurel wreath with the emblem of the municipality made by the master craftsman Amleto Consoli and the dedication “ACQUAPENDENTE AI SUOI ​​FALLUTI – 1915 – 1918”. On the sides, two tombstones with 100 names of the fallen.
